Saint Augustine says that God the Father knows what is going to happen to us before we are born. He maintains that some of us are predestined to be rejected before we are born and some of us will be saved. It makes no difference if we believe in Christ. Although, my knowledge pf the Holy Gospel is quite limited, I believe that he is using one of the Pauline epistles. Since Saint Paul had somewhat unique views of Jesus teachings, this may not be what the Synoptic gospels say on predestination. He is so unsure of his views that he tells the 2 priests or presbyters that he is writing to not to bring this up to their congregations in the same manner that he has expressed to them. He tells them to be very general and non specific about it..
He also backs up at the end of the book and says that no one will know who is or is not saved until the final judgement. So much for predestination.
My personal opinion is the Christ died to save ALL of us, not just some vague group that God may have predestined to be saved. Why would God let his only begotten Son be cruelly tortured to death as a perfect sacrifice for our sins when everything was preset?
He also has a strange view of perseverance. He seems to think that it is hard for us to persevere in the faith. that it is almost better if we die young so that we are freed from further sin. This is a strange view to hold if we are to believe that everything is preset. Also, if we all are so weak in the faith, then why even be born.
The translation was really poor in places. Words were obviously misspelled.
